OUT OF TIME CHICAGO/ 4PLAY V.1

Our First Out Of Time Event In Chicago!!!

Out of Time Festival: A preparation for the coming dissolvement of the human form, in the shape of a festival.

Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure to invite you to this first Out of Time event in Chicago. An evening of audio/visual performances, ritual disco, kraut from the stake; to open the portals, to exit the dark night of the human state.

Apocalypse-
c.1384, “revelation, disclosure,” from Church L. apocalypsis “revelation,” from Gk. apokalyptein “uncover,” from apo- “from” (see apo-) + kalyptein “to cover, conceal” (see Calypso).

For our own sake and those curious, it seems like a good idea to put our preliminary project description for the, first ever Out of Time Chicago out on the site. So we know where we have it, and so anyone curious about the concept can get the info they might want.

Here Goes::::::::

Out of Time Festival (OOTF) was initially organized by the performance network known as BorderClinic in Skien, Norway the 24th and 25th of
July 2007 and repeated over the same dates in 2008. This summer a group
of Chicago-based artists are attempting to organize the festival in the
city, within the conceptual frames of the original festival, but in a version appropriated for the Chicago audience.

While the original idea of the Day Out of Time was discovered as an
interpretation of the Mayan calendar codices, by Jose Arguelles founder of the  the
Neo-Maya movement known as Foundation for the Law of Time (FLT), it has
always been BorderClinic and OOTF’s agenda to freely experiment in the light of FLT’s slogan: “Time is not money, time is art”.

Without necessarily deferring far from these words we, the organizers,
allow ourselves to connect to contemporary discourses on time
perception, particularly in relation to how this perception can be
manipulated, and becomes something more obviously relative, in the
time-based art forms, but also how this happens in the way archaic
ecstasy can evoked in crowds, for example when effected by the total
sensory experience of a live performance, particularly concerts.
Festival somehow seems like the right format for an exploration within
this field.

FLT’s ideological attempt to introduce a read of the Mayan calendar for
the everyday  seems to rebel against the western, or more precisely
Gregorian, calendar as an absolute model for time management. This can in

turns be said to be a mere relic from the Roman Empire, and carrying with it
traces of the power dynamics of those times. Out of Time can be said to
be a war machine activated as a part of this rebellion, although
external to FLT. While the glimpses of insight into the codices, as
proutoftimefest.orgainstream audience seems to focus exclusively
on the apparently predicted doom of year 2012, Out of Time philosophy
seeks to find beneficial expressions coping with lastness and passing, the
aesthetics of disappearance, without the fear propaganda characteristic
of the eschatological model, which in turn seems to belong to
Judeo-Christian traditions.

In practice, what we intend to do in Chicago will be to organize the
Out of Time event 24th and 25th of July, simultaneous with the event in
Norway, happening over seven venues around the city. The different
venues will facilitate different events in the proximity of the
aforementioned theme, within a spectrum of time based arts reaching
from the contemplations of experimental performance, sound and media
art, documentary screenings, to the pure ecstatic peaks of pop music
and multi media concerts and parties.
